Food Unwrapped: One slice of brown bread has as much salt as THIS many packets of crisps

Low sodium salt products are is hitting the market – bringing down the salt content of products.

But can Britons guess how much salt in the seemingly healthy food they eat every day.

Kate Quilton, a presenter on the Channel 4 show, hit the streets to test the British public’s knowledge. 

They were shocked to discover just how much salt was in their food.

They found that in one slice of wholemeal brown bread there is the same amount of salt as two packets of Ready Salted crisps.

Fresh supermarket pea soup contains the same amount of salt as seven packets of Ready Salted crisps.

Most surprisingly sashimi sushi contains the same amount of salt as 16 packets of Ready Salted crisps.

That is a whopping three-quarters of your salt for the day.

Recently the programmed revealed that vitamin D is the only food supplement worth taking, with others a waste of time.

The Channel 4 programme investigated whether there was any need to take multivitamin supplements or if they were a waste of money.

The team travelled to the USA to speak to the doctors behind the food given to NASA astronauts.

Speaking to Colonel Douglas Weelock, who has clocked up 180 days in space, they found out what astronauts eat on their missions.

The programme has also revealed whether green chips are poisonous.

Food Unwrapped presenter, Matt Tebbutt, investigated whether the green bits on the edge of crisps is of any significance – and the answer is surprising. 

Visiting a potato farm in Norfolk, Matt went to the root of the problem. 

Speaking to the farmer, he found out potatoes start turning green when they’re exposed to light.
