Research by mySupermarket.co.uk compared the price of a basket of shopping containing 35 popular items in June and July.
The cost in June was £83.04, compared to £84.35 in July, a rise of £1.31 in just one month.
mySupermarket revealed the majority products rose by two – eight per cent, but onions and kitchen towels rose by 16 per cent and 18 per cent respectively.
Some items did fall in price, but the drop was minimal at just one per cent on every item except mushrooms, which fell by six per cent after months of consistent rises.
Overall the cost of 19 products rose, 10 decreased and 6 stayed the same. The total basket is 91p more expensive than July 2016.
mySupermarket’s CEO Gilad Simhony said: “We are not yet seeing a slowdown in the price increases in the supermarkets. Since June there has been a £3 rise in the price of the average shopping basket, which is more than double for the same period last year as it only rose by £1.50 in the same two months last year.
“More than ever, customers should do their research before shopping so they can make sure they are getting the best value for money.
