However he rejoined in 1996 but has now been replaced.

As to why Buckingham has been kicked out, have confirmed it was due to a disagreement over Fleetwood Mac’s upcoming tour.

Today the band announced that Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House will take his place.

In a statement Fleetwood Mac said: “We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family.

“With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs.”

They added: “Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honouring that spirit on this upcoming tour”

She said: “I don’t know if I would have written Songbird had I not had a couple of toots of cocaine and a half bottle of champagne and I just couldn’t sleep.

“Or written any of the songs that were on that album because, I mean, I think we were all pretty loaded.”
