We’ve kept an eye on Lola Kirke since she charmed her way through Mistress America, her breakthrough role; since that 2015 gem, she’s enchanted us on Mozart in the Jungle, amazed us in the woefully underseen AWOL, and startled us in the forthcoming Gemini. Point is, when she’s in a new movie, it has our attention, so Active Adults has our attention.
The new comedy/drama, directed by Aaron Fisher-Cohen, takes the “crushed millenials move back home” trope one step further, as frustrated young NYC couple Malcolm and Lily decide to try out a “new way of living” with Malcolm’s grandparents in a New Jersey “active adult” community. (Don’t call it a retirement home.) Kirke and Jonathan Rosen star as the youngsters; the stellar supporting cast includes Rosie Perez, Ellen Barken, Scott Cohen, and Uncle Junior himself, Dominic Chianese.
And we’re thrilled to debut the trailer, right here:
Active Adults is available on digital and VOD this Tuesday, November 21.
