Tell us about How To Holiday Better
Cherry Healey and Ade Adepitan take a set of holidaymakers out of their comfort zone and introduce them to a new budget and new places while I fly to Oman to suss it out.
Had you been before?
No and quite frankly I didn’t want to go, either. I was worried as a woman going on my own to a Middle Eastern country I might have been restricted.
And what did you think?
It’s very traditional but I didn’t feel restricted. In Oman they really want tourists so they are very welcoming. You don’t get hassled walking through a market and that meant a lot to me, I hate it when you get harassed. They have a ban on anything over three storeys so the architecture is beautiful.
What can you do there?
They have goat markets; they have a version of the Grand Canyon – and the nature is amazing! It’s not as expensive as Dubai and you can do it on the cheap. I would go back.
Where do you normally holiday?
I went to Brazil last year, I have been to Cuba and I go to America a lot.
I also do a lot of weekends in the UK; Northumberland is beautiful.
Where has been your favourite place?
Cuba, with the old Cadillac cars, looks and feels very different to anywhere. There isn’t a Starbucks on every street.
Where to next?
Japan. I want to see the snow monkeys, the mountains and Tokyo.
Are you scared of flying?
I love flying, I think the flight is part of the holiday. I really look forward to sitting down and watching a film.
Do you take package holidays?
Sometimes I go to Spain with friends on a cheap package. Other times I will go mad on some crazy adventure.
What did you learn from How To Holiday Better?
Not to judge the culture of a place until you go there.
What are your top tips?
Go off the beaten track. You will probably enjoy it more as it will be cheaper.
What are your holiday plans?
I am going away soon with Carol Kirkwood and Sally Nugent from BBC Breakfast. We go to Las Vegas every year.
It’s like girls on tour, honestly, it is a scream. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
