Fearless: Viewers in shock as THIS comedian takes on surprise role in new ITV thriller

Those watching at home were quite surprised to see the Liverpudlian in a serious programme as he is usually seen on stage making people laugh at his stand-up gigs.

But the 50-year-old – who appeared in E4 series Skins and BBC One show Accused – has made a return to the small screen after five years away from acting.

In the six-part drama, John plays Steve Livesey, the boyfriend of human rights lawyer Emma Banville (played by Helen McCrory).

The thriller follows Emma as she sets out to prove the innocence of a man who was wrongly imprisoned for a murder he didn’t commit.

And viewers couldn’t help but flock to Twitter to express mixed feelings about seeing the comedian in the new crime drama.

One confused person wrote: “Didn’t realise John Bishop was an actor? #Fearless.”

“Don’t know if I’ll be able to take this drama seriously with John Bishop in it #Fearless,” another commented.

A third added: “Struggling to get used to seeing @JohnBishop100 playing a serious role but impressed so far #Fearless.”

“Just waiting for John Bishop to come out with a punchline #Fearless,” another fan wrote.

John’s appearance in the show wasn’t the only thing that got viewers talking on social media as many complained about the show’s shaky camera work.

Fearless airs on ITV on Mondays at 9pm.
