The Crimes of Grindelwald is packed with big name stars like Eddie Redmayne, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Zoe Kravitz. Fans, though, have taken a shine to the handsome actor who plays Newt’s sensible big brother Theseus Scamander. If he seems familiar, that is because Turner has already been in high profile TV shows like War and Peace and modelled for years. So, who is Callum Turner and where else can you see him?
The star has the rather wonderful full name of Callum Robilliard Turner and was born on February 15, 1990.
He got his first breaks at 20, modelling for brands like Nike and Next and started acting in smaller student films but his career really took off in 2012 when he played the young lover of Helen McCrory in the ITV drama Leaving.
The same year he also played the lead in John Boorman’s Queen and Country, the sequel to 1987’s Oscar-nominated Hope and Glory.
In 2014 he starred in Channel 4’s Glue and the big screen blockbuster Victor Frankenstein, alongside Daniel Radclifef and James McAvoy.
Probably his highest profile role before Fantastic Beasts 2 was 2016’s lavish BBC drama War and Peace.
Turner played the dashing and dastardly Anatole Kuragin opposite Lily James and James Norton. The same year he also starred in the box office flop Assassin’s Creed with Micheal Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
His profile continued to rise with another leading role in 2017’s The Only Living Boy in New York with Kate Beckinsale, Cynthia Nixon, Pierec Brosnan and Jeff Bridges. It was a minor box office success but yet again his performance was praised.
His heroic turn in Fantastic Beasts 2 has won him a legion of new fans.
Theseus and Newt Scamander are reconciled by the dramatic ending of the latest Harry Potter spin-off. With three more movies to go, fans will hope to see more of the handsome young wizard.
However, his story is still being written, so it isn’t yet known whether he will make it to the end.
