Epsom Derby 2018: Queen Elizabeth wears spring lilac and floral dress for day at the races

Epsom Derby enters its second day today, and one of the highlights of the weekend was the arrival of the Queen.

Her Majesty, 92, stood out in a lilac coat which she wore buttoned up.

A purple and diamond brooch was pinned to the coat, and a three strand pearl necklace could be seen underneath the collar.

The Queen matched a pair of simple pearl earrings to the necklace.

Underneath the coat, a purple, pink and green floral dress could be seen.

Completing the look, Queen Elizabeth wore a matching lilac hat which had two large flowers – the same as those on her dress – pinned on to it.

As always, she wore a pair of crisp white gloves and held a black patent handbag in her arm.

A pair of low-heeled black shoes were the finishing touch.

Complimenting the purple colour and bringing out the pink of the flowers in her hat, the Queen wore raspberry coloured lipstick.

Horseracing is one of the Queen’s favourite pastimes, and she rarely misses a big event such as Epsom.

Saxon Warrior is the odds-on favourite to win today’s Derby race.

The Queen has had a busy couple of weeks, hosting a Garden Party with Prince William at Buckingham Palace this week.

She wore a vibrant blue outfit for the occasion, although onlookers were more interested in her sunglasses – an unsual addition for the monarch, who is not often seen in them.

The parties have been held at Buckingham Palace since the 1860s as a way to recognise public service, and the event last week was the second of the year so far.

Previous to this, the Queen joined the rest of the Royal Family to celebrate Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle.

She chose a lime green ensemble created by Stewart Parvin for her grandson’s special day.

And she even co-ordinated with the bride on her wedding day via the jewellery she chose.

The Queen added the Richmond Diamond brooch with pearl drop.

The enormous piece belonged to Queen Mary, just like Meghan’s stunning tiara.

The Queen has worn the piece often, including at her 90th birthday.
