Emmy-winning producer STABBED man in argument over the Oscars: Faces 13-year sentence

They take the Oscars very seriously in Hollywood but the industry is reeling with shock at the current court case.

Andre Salaman Bautista (aka Andre Bauth) could face up to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

The attack happened on September 8, 2015 and was the tragic result of Haymes laughing at Bautista’s Oscar-winning dreams during a conversation at their shared home in Studio City, California.

In a shock twist, Bautista and Haymes had also made a film, El Landlord, about a landlord who stabs his tenants.

The Los Angels District Attorney’s office said: “(Bautista) stabbed his tenant in the chest after the victim laughed when the defendant said he would win five Academy Awards, according to court testimony.”

Haymes told CBS about the attack: “When he said, ‘five Oscars,’ we all kind of laughed a little bit, and he got really upset.

“I was terrified for my life. I’m just happy to be alive. I just don’t understand why he would want to do this to me.”

After the attack, Bautista fled the scene and police issued a warrant for his arrest. The 35-year-old later admitted that he had driven through Nevada and Arizona, into Texas, before crossing US border on foot into Mexico, where he spent the night. Bautista made it to Mexico City in 28 hours on three buses.

The actor and producer, who had won a Daytime Emmy earlier that year for the soap opera The Bay, finally surrendered at the US Embassy in Mexico City on September 17.

As well as being his landlord, Bautista had also starred in and produced the film El Landlord with the 23-year-old Haymes.

The film has a shocking direct link to those horrific events of September 8, 2015.

El Landlord also features a man who stabs his tenants in blood-soaked scenes which echo the events in Bautista’s own kitchen.

Bautista himself seemed unclear about the severity of his actions when he said after the attack: “I wanted always to be famous, but not famous like this. I won an Emmy three months ago and nobody talks about it. But I make one mistake —I guess that’s how Hollywood works.”

Bautista will be sentenced on March 22.
