The actress, who has starred in Emmerdale for 18 years, confessed that Charity’s behaviour could lead to her departure.
Over the years, fans of the long-running ITV soap have watched as the barmaid has tried to con several men out of their fortune and sold her own son.
But in recent episodes, she has shown a much softer side as she embarks on a relationship with Vanessa Woodfield (played by Michelle Hardwick).
However Emma isn’t convinced their happiness will last and worries that Charity will end up in trouble again.
“I’m blessed with really good dialogue,” she said.
“Her humour runs throughout and it’s so important when you’re playing such a b***h.
“I’m so lucky with the writing because there could come a point where you think we’ve just had enough now, how much of a b***h can you be before there’s a shelf life?”
Emma went on to add to The Sun: “I’m sure there will be a shelf life to my character at some point, but right now I’m blessed with the fact that humour is a big part of life in general.
“When you’re having huge traumas in your life, sat there with a cup of tea crying and then laughing, we’ve all been there.”
Speaking about Charity’s romance with Vanessa, the 42-year-old insisted their relationship is “genuine and loving”.
“Laughter is an absolute tonic,” she said. “I think that’s the beauty of what she’s found with Vanessa.
“There’s no manipulation going on, it’s actually genuine and kind and loving.
“She’s perhaps not been used to that. She’s often been the unkind one, and she’s found herself being a bit nicer. She can’t believe it.”
Thursday night’s instalment of Emmerdale saw Charity and Vanessa agree to give their relationship a go after the vet tried to make The Woolpack barmaid jealous on a night out.
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm.
