After the funeral for Chrissie and Lawrence White, who were both killed in a car crash earlier this month, Lachlan (played by Thomas Atkinson) rushed to the hospital to murder his aunt Rebecca (Emily Head).
In last night’s episode, Lachlan was seen behaving erratically after discovering Gerry Roberts (Shaun Thomas) listened to the incriminating voicemail he accidentally left him at the time of the crash.
Intercepting, his on-off girlfriend Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Drape) switched off the recording before Lachlan deleted the message.
Later, Robert told Lachlan he would try and help Rebecca by pursuing high-end treatment for her.
This worried Lachlan, who rushed to the hospital and told a comatose Rebecca he would not let her ruin his relationship with Belle, before squeezing her breathing tubes.
The monitors on her life support machine immediately started to go off and Rebecca began to seize up.
But the scene puzzled fans of the ITV soap as some noticed a massive error and took to Twitter to complain about it being unusual that no doctors or nurses turned up when the alarms went off.
One wrote: “Lachlan tries to kill Rebecca in the hospital – bells and buzzers going off! Why didn’t the staff race through? Usually, those sorts of monitors are linked to a nurse station! Odd!”
“If the alarm goes off on a respirator medics are their instantly. Don’t make drama too unrealistic as you’ll lose your respect,” begged another.
A third posted: “Why was the nurse not coming in? Ffs an alarm would have gone off.”(sic)
“Wait hold up. I thought nurses rushed to someone when the machines go off. Not really portraying real life there #Emmerdale,” moaned another.
While a fifth commented: “Love it how people can sit alone with those in ICU and be able to fiddle with incubation tubes without a nurse in sight.”
One noted: “Lachlan, you idiot! You’ve overlooked two small facts. One, there’s CCTV in hospitals. Two, your prints are all over Rebecca’s breathing tubes.”
However, Lachlan didn’t go through with the killing and later Belle found him in tears outside the room.
That day he broke up with Belle, telling her: “We shouldn’t be together, whatever this is, we’re done.”
