Emmerdale spoilers: Ross Barton star teases unexpected reconciliation following drug drama

Ross Barton (played by Michael Parr) hit rock bottom on Thursday’s double bill of Emmerdale when his secret drug addiction was exposed.

The mechanic started taking cocaine, a class A drug, after he was badly scarred during a horrific acid attack earlier this year.

His addiction gradually drove the people he cared most about away, including his brother Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan), who announced he was thinking about moving in with his girlfriend Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry).

During last night’s instalment of the ITV show, Ross threw a house party to lift his spirits, however, his drug-fuelled behaviour upset many of his guests.

Despite Ross managing to keep his use of drugs a secret from the partygoers new friend Ryan Stocks (James Moore) realised something was terribly wrong when Ross briefly dropped his bag of cocaine.

Ryan was the last remaining guest at the party and tried to talk Ross out of taking drugs but he turned on him and kicked him out of his house.

To viewers it looked as those that was the end of Ross and Ryan’s budding friendship but Michael, who plays the drug addict, suggested they could make up in the future.

Tweeting about last night’s episode, Michael wrote: “Coked up Ross is an ar****le right? Loved working with @jamesmooreactor though. I would like the bromance to return! Would you?”

In response to Michael’s tweet, James penned: “Really enjoyed tonight’s episode. @MikeParrActor was fantastic as always, so much fun to work with and quite literally the life of the party!

“Thank you all for your wonderful tweets, having the time of my life in this role.”

Newcomer James was introduced as Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) 27-year-old estranged son earlier this year.

His character suffers from Ataxic Cerebral Palsy and his father police officer DI Mark Bails (Rocky Marshall) abused Charity as a child.

Ahead of James’ debut, Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks promised Ryan’s arrival would throw a ”spanner in the works” and teased “unexpected twists” to come.

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome James to the show; an actor of real skill, talent and charisma,” she said.

“As to be expected with his Dingle heritage, the character of Ryan is feisty, funny and reckless, and with an unquenchable zest for life.”

She added: “Ryan will not only turn Charity’s life upside down, but also the wider Dingle clan as his arrival throws a massive spanner in the works.

“As Ryan navigates his newfound family ties and connects with the mother he never knew he had, it unearths yet another layer to Charity.”

Meanwhile, James said: “I’m so excited to have joined the Emmerdale cast. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and I’m having a great time playing Ryan.

“I leapt a mile when I got the call and I was over the moon to hear that I had got the part.”

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
