Emmerdale spoilers: Rebecca White dead in Lachlan White terror but there's a HUGE twist?

Emmerdale viewers have been waiting for the moment Rebecca (played by Emily Head) would finally escape from the shack where her nephew Lachlan (Thomas Atkinson) was keeping her hostage.

And in high-octane scenes during last night’s thrilling double bill of the ITV soap finally saw Rebecca slide out of her chains and smash last remaining family member over the head with a frying pan.

A chase ensued through the forest and just as it seemed Rebecca managed to get free of the evil killer he managed to catch up with her just in time.

Both were injured and Rebecca even managed to pull a sly one over Lachlan by pretending her memory loss had come back.

But it wasn’t enough, and as the pair heard a noise Rebecca revealed the truth and she tried desperately to escape.

Following a poignant conversation between the family members, which saw Rebecca try one last ditch attempt to beg for her freedom, Lachlan declared it was too late and there could be “only one way”.

As the episode closed, Lachlan appeared to smother Rebecca to death but could there be a way out for the character?

Viewers will remember Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) was just outside the hut and had heard a noise, did he already secretly know it was Lachlan and was forming a secret plan to break in?

If he’d spotted Rebecca running through the forest earlier, he could be gearing up to not only expose Lachlan but save Rebecca from certain death as well.

As it became clear Rebecca had lied about her confusion, a heartbroken Lachlan said: “I should have known, but I believed you.

How could you mention mum and grandad like that? You used them!”

“I wasn’t,” Rebecca insisted,” Please let me go I won’t say anything.

“I just want to take Seb and go.”

Angry, Lachlan reminded his hostage he’d promised her she could go, but sadly things changed when he went away to see his girlfriend Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) in Wales.

I know you’re worried about what might happen but we can find a way through,” Rebecca begged again, trying to get through to the psychotic murderer.

She continued: “Lachlan listen to me, just let me go and take Seb long enough to get a plane ticket.”

But Lachlan had clearly already made up his mind, as he started holding her close to him.

“I don’t wanna be here anymore,” Rebecca cried, as Lachlan replied: “You won’t be for much longer.”

Holding a cloth over her mouth, viewers watched as the teenager attempted to suffocate the mother-of-one, but will she survive at the last second when someone bursts through the shack?

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV.
