It was revealed that Emmerdale had lined up a difficult story for original character Lisa (played by Jane Cox) on the ITV soap weeks ago, but fans couldn’t have been prepared for the awful twist that was to come in yesterday’s double bill.
Lisa had been enjoying a fun drink with her friends and family in the village’s local Woolpack pub when things got quite rowdy after it turned out that Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) had added some extra strong alcohol to Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Lachlan White’s (Thomas Atkinson) new brew.
As Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) struggled to contain the situation no one was aware that teenagers Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele) and Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) were secretly spiking Daz Spencer’s drink for revenge.
Instead, Lisa accidentally picked up the wrong drink and she suddenly collapsed on the table in the middle of the pub.
As the reality of what she’d done dawned, Liv was swamped with guilt and she headed to the hospital with the rest of her family.
Yet while viewers expected grandmother Lisa to simply ride out the high, a trauma ensued when the elderly farmer suddenly went into cardiac arrest.
Terrified, Zak was left praying for his wife to survive and fans were horrified by the shocking twist.
Taking to Twitter, they expressed their anger at the situation.
One person said: “I’ll be heartbroken if Lisa dies, what is Emmerdale without Lisa Dingle #Emmerdale #LISA.”
“Please don’t tell me Lisa Dingle dies thats one step too far xxx #Emmerdale,” another fan warned.
A third agreed: “NO, DON’T KILL LISA I WON’T WATCH #emmerdale.”
While a fourth cried: “IF LISA DIES I’LL RIOT!!! #Emmerdale.”
Viewers continued to share their anguish over Lisa’s potential exit from the soap and demanded justice against Liv and Gabby.
“Liv for crying out loud just come clean! And Gabby is the absolute worst. Does she ever take responsibility for her actions?! #Emmerdale,” one viewer angrily said.
Another added: “Whoa! WT actual F?! No one told me they were gonna kill Lisa off!! Did you know? Did anyone know?!! Needing answers here people!!!! #emmerdale.”
