Emmerdale spoilers: Joe Gill breaks silence on shock Finn Barton exit: 'I will miss it'

Speaking to media including Express.co.uk at a recent press day, the 23-year-old soap star spoke out about how he told Emmerdale boss Iain MacLeod back in February that he was planning to go after four years.

“I’ve loved every second but personally it’s the right time to move on,” Joe explained.

He went on to say: “[The writers] had enough time to write the exit and I’m proud to have been here and that the character goes so dramatically.

“[It] draws a line under it, it’s therapeutic as the slate has been completely wiped as opposed to him nipping off. Final!

Joe added: “I will miss it very, very much. I know I’ll be seeing people on the outside.”

Emmerdale fans were left devastated after Finn died in hospital following a fatal gunshot wound, fired in error by his own mum Emma (played by Gillian Kearney).

After lying bleeding in the woods, he found the strength to stagger to the nearest road and hailed down Cain Dingle’s (Jeff Hordley) car but medical help came a little too late.

Reflecting on what he was planning to do next, Joe said: “Ideally, I’d love to delve back into theatre. It’s very strange because when I joined I’d done more theatre.

“I was very, very scared of being on a television set because it’s quite intimidating if you’re not used to it. But now obviously after the experience gained here, that seems second nature to me.

“The thought of stage now frightens me, so I’d like to get back to doing something like that to prove to myself that I can do it. Something different to be honest.”

Joe also teased what fans could expect after the passing of Finn, saying: “There’s a struggle and a lot of emotional stuff from other characters surrounding him.”

Emmerdale continues on ITV tomorrow at 7pm.
