The youngster (played by Isobel Steele) opened up to Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and admitted she didn’t have any sexual feelings for girls or boys.
After getting drunk with Gerry Roberts (Shaun Thomas) and being sick the previous night, Belle interrogated her on what had happened.
Liv went on to reveal she had tried to kiss Gerry after Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) teased her about not fancying any boys.
She said: “It’s because I’m such a try hard. Gabby was going on at me about not being into boys and I just wanted to kiss Gerry to prove her wrong. That’s it, I swear.”
As Belle asked her if she liked Gerry, the schoolgirl admitted: “I wish I fancied him it would be a lot easier. I’m not that into guys.”
Belle assumed her confession meant she was into girls, but Liv was adamant that isn’t the case.
She added: “No that’s not it. I don’t like anyone at all. I know it’s weird, everyone has feelings for someone. I have nothing.”
After the episode, fans flocked to Twitter to speculate whether Liv was asexual – someone who does not experience sexual attraction – and many were excited at the prospect of the storyline.
One viewer wrote: “Really hope Liv’s storyline in #Emmerdale is going where I think it is – we need more #Asexual characters on TV…”
Another person said: “Asexual Liv Flaherty I have been saying this for months!!!! #Emmerdale.”
“This asexual storyline with Liv has the potential to be awesome, I really hope #Emmerdale treat it with care and respect,” said a third viewer.
