Emma (played by Gillian Kearney) has been hiding the terrible truth that she killed her husband James Barton (Bill Ward) for a while now, but it was only recently that Laurel Thomas’ (Charlotte Bellamy) young son Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) accidentally watched the footage that showed an incriminating conversation between Emma and her own husband Ashley (John Middleton).
However, even though Emma hastily came up with a plan to try and spin the story and pin the blame on Laurel’s grieving son’s “lies”, Laurel decided that her ‘friend’s’ version of events wasn’t enough.
After quizzing Emma on why her son has been so distraught and refusing to talk to her, Laurel demanded Arthur for the real story when she found out that he’d accidentally dropped the camera in a bucket of water and destroyed it.
But when Emma desperately tried to keep Arthur from spilling the beans on her secret, Laurel eventually snapped and sent the killer away.
“I will not warn you again Emma, in fact why are you still here? Can you leave? I want to talk to my son, on my own, find out what really happened,” Laurel told her firmly.
Arthur then revealed that the reason Emma had wanted to watch his dad’s videos was because she was in one of them, and explained: “She was talking to him, he was all confused and upset. She just made it worse.
“It was something about that bridge, the one James fell off. Dad was going on about how she was on the bridge with him,” he continued.
As the pieces began to fall into place that Emma is not what she appears to be, the widowed mother later appeased her with an apology.
She then revealed in The Woolpack pub that she was determined to give Arthur a break from the “conniving cow”.
Laurel went on: “Ashley saw her on the bridge, when James died. Nobody believed him. Everyone just thought it was the dementia talking, but he was right! She was there.
“All I know is she has traumatised my son and she is desperate to hide something. I’m gonna find out what,” she added ominously.
