Laurel (played by Charlotte Bellamy) whacked the crazed killer across the face after Emma (Gillian Kearney) snatched Arthur Thomas, as witnessed by priest Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton).
However, after the village suspected Laurel of hitting the bottle again following the discovery of an empty bottle of vodka, Emma turned the tables on her for once more.
As Emma lay on the floor stunned, she revealed that she tok Arthur to the hospital after he had an allergic reaction to a wasp sting.
“What have I done?” Emma gasped.
Later she admitted defeat and told Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw): “It’s over. She’s won.”
However, next week’s Emmerdale will see Laurel take a drastic U-turn as she uses Emma’s spirituality against her in a cunning tactic to expose Emma’s killer secret.
Laurel makes it clear that she knows what really happened to James Barton (Bill Ward) during that fateful night on the bridge, prompting Emma to open up.
