Emma (played by Gillian Kearney) has so far got away with murdering her husband James Barton (Bill Ward) last year when she hurled him off a bridge landing onto the late Ashley Thomas’ (John Middleton) speeding car, which caused an almighty pile-up.
But it appears she will finally get her comeuppance after Ashley and Laurel Thomas’ (Charlotte Bellamy) nine-year-old son Arthur (Alfie Clarke) discovers the video that shows her manipulating his father.
After the horrific incident, Emma paid the dementia sufferer a visit to make sure he didn’t remember seeing her push James to his death.
But unbeknownst to her, Ashley unwittingly recorded their conversation which has now made its way to Arthur.
And, in upcoming scenes, the youngster looks on in disbelief as he watches the home video which shows Emma trying to confuse his father into forgetting that he saw her standing on the bridge.
Later on in the week, Arthur comes across the murderer and he can’t help but act uneasy around her.
Will Arthur expose Emma’s secret? Will justice finally be served for James?
Fans of the ITV soap certainly won’t have to wait long until James’ death is avenged as the manipulating mother-of-three is leaving the soap this autumn and will be involved in a “major storyline”.
An Emmerdale spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “Gillian Kearney was intending to leave Emmerdale in May 2017. We asked her to extend her contract to play the last chapter of Emma Barton’s story.
“Gillian was happy to stay with the programme to the end of the year in the knowledge she would be involved in a major storyline this autumn.”
