On August 16th 1977 Elvis died aged just 42-years-old.
Around six weeks beforehand Todd Slaughter, who has been owner of The Official Elvis Presley fan club UK for over 50 years, had a chance to meet the King.
And the footage of the fan meeting his idol is believed to be the last time Elvis was captured on film.
Speaking with Express.co.uk, Todd revealed what happened at this meeting with Elvis at Indianapolis airport and how the star was looking far from healthy.
On what Elvis said to him, Todd revealed: “He was laughing his tits off.
“But you try to remember what it was all about. He was saying something funny about Colonel Parker [Elvis’ manager], not offensive or anything like that.
“Of course I did say, ‘When are you going to come [to tour the UK]?’
“But of course by that time you could tell Elvis wasn’t a well guy to say the least.”
Todd continued: “A lady producer from Danish telly was there and she said, ‘Have a close look at him. Our makeup woman says his skin is rather pallor and he looks like he’s got six months to live.’
“And as it turned out it was six weeks. I was told this information by a very credible source.”
Nevertheless the UK fan club owner says Elvis went out really well with his “spectacular” last show that evening – WATCH his last song from the final concert here.
Todd added: “I think the timing of Elvis’ demise was quite awful really because the guy was only 42.”
“You can’t blame it on anyone, or on the act. It’s the environment of being a star. Very few people go through it unscathed.”
A decade earlier Todd also helped arrange the UK screening of Elvis’ 1968 Comeback Special at De Montfort Hall in Leicester which 2000 people attended.
The classic TV special returns to the cinema during this year’s Elvis week.
Elvis ’68 Comeback Special is available in over 280 UK Cinemas from 16th August. Tickets can be bought at https://en.fathomrocks.com.
