A new £1 coin with a minting error described as “very rare” by the seller has been listed on eBay.
With a week left to go on the listing, there are 12 people watching it and an average of one view an hour.
The seller has shared four images of the coin which show exactly what is unusual about it.
The silver middle has not been set properly, and there are holes where the outer ring does not meet the middle.
The middle is also not properly centred in the new one pound coin.
Listed for £5000, the seller does not provide any information, informing interested parties to “contact me for further details”.
The seller, mojibjalalimojib, has a 100 per cent positive feedback rating.
Pound coins old and new are a popular item to sell on eBay, particularly if they feature an unusual design.
A recent listing of a one pound coin with a London design saw the money up for sale at £1.5million.
The reason this item is potentially worth so much money is thanks to it being part of a special collection.
Royal Mint released the ‘City Series’ of coins in 2010, with one for each of the capital cities of Great Britain.
Royal Mint said of the coin: “2010 saw the launch of an entirely new £1 coin series which focused on the four capital cities of the UK – the ‘City Series’.
“It was the first time in a ‘home countries’ £1 coin series that two coins were released in the same year.”
In 2010 the London and Belfast coins were released, and in 2011 the Cadriff and Edinburgh versions were released.
Speaking about the London coin, Royal Mint said: “The motto of the arms, DOMINE DIRIGE NOS – translated as ‘Lord, deliver us’ – features as the edge inscription for the London £1 coin.”
Describing the item, the seller said: “London pound coin for sale, rare, reasonable offers will be considered.”
