A rare Beatrix Potter 50p coin has sold online for a huge sum recently.
The 2016 Peter Rabbit Beatrix Potter coin depicts one of the best-loved characters of British children’s fiction.
The image, which is a face on portrait of the bunny, is rendered in colour on this silver proof version of the coin.
Sold by eBay user “watsec” in Witney, UK, they write of the coin: “Mint condition. Only taken out of the box a hand full of times.
“Only 15,000 made, the hardest of the beatrix potter coins to get.” [sic]
The demand of the silver proof coloured versions of the coin is high.
This coin is also a slabbed coin, held in a perspex case, making it more valuable.
There are 9,600,000 of the designs in circulation, but this collectors piece is likely to be cherished for a long time.
The seller added: “Comes with its certificate of authenticity no. 5165.
“The coin itself has a small amount of colour missing (see the photos) this is how it was received and only makes it more collectable and rare in my opinion.
“I received a 2018 peter rabbit from the MINT last week with similar colour missing!
“The coin in the pictures is the coin you will receive, having to sell to fund a wedding.” [sic]
The coin had a starting price of £575 and two bids were made on the coin.
Another rare 50p coin has sold for £1,000 on eBay recently.
The Battle of Hastings coin, created in 2016, has proven popular among collectors.
