eBay: One of a number of rare Olympic swimmer 50p coins has sold for £1,500

A rare 50p coin has sold for £1,500 on the eBay.

The Olympic 50p coin showing the image of a swimmer submerged in water was sold on 4 November 2017.

The 50p coin, described as “very rare” by the seller was minted in 2011.

It was one of a number of 50p coins created for the London 2012 Olympics.

Coins were also created to celebrate archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boccia and canoeing among other sports.

This coin is described by Royal Mint as: “A swimmer submerged in water, with the London 2012 logo above and the denomination, “50 PENCE”, below.”

It was designed by Jonathan Olliffe.

This particular version of the coin shows the swimmer with his face down, underneath the water.

This is not the first time this rare coin has sold for a large amount online.

Change Checker revealed that one of 50p coins sold for £820.

This version of the coin, with the lines of the water passing over the swimmer’s face, is the rare original design.

It was then changed to make the face of the swimmer more visible.

Another rare coin recently sold for a more modest £25 online, do you have one?

The £2 coin was created to commemorate the Second World War.

Celebrating a special moment in British history, the image on the coin pays homage to St Pauls Cathedral.

The great UK landmark in London miraculously missed the devastation of the Second World War.
