The actress confessed that her struggling character Stacey could be faced with death when she is forced to undergo an emergency caesarean.
The pregnant mother-of-two endured having her children Lily (Aine Garvey) and Arthur ripped away from her by social services last week, after meddling grandmother Carmel Kazemi (Bonnie Langford) got the wrong end of the stick and reported her for child abuse.
But it seems that the trouble isn’t over for the fiery brunette, who will be rushed to hospital in harrowing upcoming scenes on the BBC soap.
Speaking to Metro about the traumatic events, Lacey admitted: “It’s really serious and both her and the baby’s lives are at risk.
“Once she had come round in hospital, it was made clear to her and Martin [James Bye] that it was important for the baby to be delivered as soon as possible for both of their sakes.”
In a bold decision, Stacey keeps her husband in the dark and confides in old-flame Max Branning (Jake Wood) about her anxieties.
“All Martin wanted was a baby of their own and that’s what she desperately wanted to give him – but feels that she can’t even do that properly,” Lacey explained.
The former Our Girl star went on to say that despite her close relationship with Martin, the bond Stacey shares with Max is just as important.
“Fear is another reason that she doesn’t open up to Martin and she’s scared to get close to the baby in case they aren’t able to take her home.
“For her it’s really easy to talk to Max – they have this weird friendship that means they can confide in each other,” she said.
EastEnders continues tonight at 7.30pm on BBC One.
