Max Branning (played by Jake Wood) was seen becoming more unhinged as he desperately tried to keep doctors from turning off his daughter Abi’s (Lorna Fitzgerald) life support.
She has been lying in hospital ever since she fell from the Queen Vic roof on Christmas Day.
Max barricaded the doors of Abi’s hospital room as he refused to let her go having already lost son Bradley (Charlie Clements) in 2010.
“I’m not going to bury another child. It’s not going to happen,” he said to his relatives and hospital staff, who were on the other side of the door.
However, Max changed his mind after being talked down by Nurse Lennon (Dystin Johnson), as she shared in his grief.
The nurse was instantly recognisable to fans of Channel 4 series Shameless, which ran from 2004 to 2013.
“What’s Norma from Shameless doing on Eastenders #eastenders,” one questioned on Twitter.
“Norma from Shameless being in Eastenders is making my Tuesday,” another complimented.
Although, Nurse Lennon was a far cry from brash and violent Norma who sported a strong Newcastle accent in the series.
“Norma off shameless on EastEnders though, my god how different does she sound. @bbceastenders @UkShameless,” a fan questioned.
“B****y hell, looks like Norma has lost her Geordie Accent #EastEnders #Shameless,” another jested.
This isn’t the first time a Shameless actor has cropped up on the BBC soap and it didn’t go unnoticed by those watching the programme.
Ciarán Griffiths, who played Mickey Maguire in the comedy drama, featured as one of Ciara Maguire’s (Denise McCormack) bumbling couriers in the big New Year’s Day heist.
One viewer questioned: “Whys all the shameless cast rocking up in eastenders. What’s going on.” (sic)
“And slowly the cast of #Shameless are taking over #EastEnders,” a second added.
EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
