EastEnders viewers watched on in shock as Steven (played by Aaron Sidwell) was told by Max (Jake Wood) that he would no longer be having any part in the plot after Steven possibly burnt down the house while there were still people inside.
Max – who is well aware that Steven, who is engaged to his daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa), has been lying about having a brain tumour – warned him that all the evidence pointed to him, so there was a strong chance that he was going to get sent down for his actions.
Steven – who is set to leave the BBC One soap in the near future – told Max: “If I go down you go down too,” as the character – who insisted that he won’t be ending up in jail again – replied: “Yeah? Well you’ve got a little problem, because it’s Ian’s car on the traffic cameras outside that flat.”
“It’s in your name and address, so all of this, all of this, is down to you,” he continued.
Viewers at home immediately took to Twitter to slam Max for setting Steven up, with one person screaming: “DON’T TRUST THE DEVIL #Eastenders.”
“Max has set Steven right up #EastEnders,” a second added, alongside a shocked face emoji.
A third pointed out: “Steven’s days are numbered, his time is coming to end soon #EastEnders.”
“Max always has a hidden agenda #Eastenders,” yet another shared, as a different social networker commented: “I said he wouldn’t know what his letting himself in for!!! #EastEnders.”
However, one insisted: “I’m glad Max is getting rid of Steven for us #eastenders.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 8pm on BBC One.
