In the latest episode of the BBC soap, Shirley (played by Linda Henry) agonised over what to do about sick dog Lady Di, who is in need of an expensive operation.
Desperately short of money, the Carter matriarch decided to have the bulldog put down as she was unable to fork out for the vets fees.
However, a conniving Max Branning (Jake Wood) gave Shirley an offer that could solve her cash-flow issues and potentially save Lady Di.
Max, who has been secretly plotting the Carters downfall, said he would buy the freehold of the Queen Vic but allow the family to run the pub as normal.
Torn over what to do, Shirley turned to Woody (Lee Ryan), who had been sent to help out with the running of the boozer, for advice.
Woody advised her to think of her own happiness and accept what Max was offering.
At the end of the programme, Shirley announced she was going to see Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) about selling the freehold, as Max was seen smirking at the bar.
Those watching at home suspected Woody might be in cahoots with the dodgy businessman.
“Woody is working for Max #EastEnders,” one viewer guessed.
“Don’t listen to Max or Woody, Shirley. They both are blatantly in on conning the Carter’s #EastEnders,” another remarked.
EastEnders continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on BBC One.
