Last night’s EastEnders finally saw Max Branning (played by Jake Wood) coming to terms with turning off the life-support machine for his daughter, Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald).
Max has been fiercely holding on to Abi’s life since Christmas Day, where he attempted to kill himself by jumping off of the Queen Vic.
Abi and her sister, Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), intervened and prevented Max’s suicide attempt, but were victim to slipping off of the roof themselves.
Lauren sustained substantial injuries, but Abi was left unconscious.
Despite her injuries, it was revealed that Abi’s baby was still alive, which the doctor’s then decided to deliver.
Now, after remaining in her unconscious state since Christmas, the time has come for Max to pull the plug.
However, viewers were preoccupied with something odd about Max’s new grandchild.
Fans noticed that the newborn’s ankle tag read ‘Smith’, despite Abi’s surname being Branning.
And with Steven as the father of the baby, the baby’s tag name could have also shown the tag as ‘Beale’.
Viewers were quick to comment on this apparent mishap, with one saying: “Why has the baby’s ankle bracelet got the name smith on it?? #EastEnders.”
Another commented: #EastEnders such a shame Mr Continuity didn’t change the actual name tag on baby Branning to make her not a Smith.”
While one viewer asked: “How come Abbie Brannings baby has SMITH on its name tag. #Eastenders.”
Even Max himself commented: “She ain’t even got a name yet has she. I promise you Lauren we’ll make the world right for her.”
After destroying the baby’s cot earlier on in the episode, Max received some advice from Dot Branning (June Brown).
Dot, who was widowed twice and has since lost her own child, offered her perspective on Max’s bleak situation.
“It’s a privilege to be able to say goodbye to Abi,” she reasoned. “I never had a chance to say goodbye to none of the people what I lost.”
EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
