Max Branning (played by Jake Wood) was served his comeuppance in monumental scenes that will down in the EastEnders history books as his closest full of skeletons burst open with cataclysmic results.
With the whole of Albert Square reeling over the bombshell that Max killed Steven Beale (Aaron Sidwell) and Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi (Lorna Fitzgerald) fighting for their lives, where can Walford’s public enemy number one really go from here?
As rumours continue to swirl suggesting Max will be following Abi and Lauren out of the BBC soap, Jake Wood has teased at a surprising turnaround.
“I think there’s always lots of options for him,” Jake exclusively told press including Express.co.uk. “When we played this story I never thought there was a point when Max was irredeemable or that he did anything that was not.”
He continued: “Max is a very complicated character. A lot of the things he does, he does them in the wrong way, but if you look back at why he’s doing them they’re very rooted in a deep way. He’s been very hurt.
“You can’t explain it away but in my mind it’s understandable why he’s doing those things.”
Though, Jake didn’t rule out the possibility of Max’s exit, adding: “In my mind it hasn’t gone to the point of no return, but that decision is ultimately out of my hands.
“That might be down to the audience if they forgive him or not, and [John Yorke], if they want to move forward.”
The drama comes as John Yorke confirmed a death is on the cards at Christmas as several huge cast members have been confirmed to be leaving.
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.
