Eamonn Holmes in shock at Richard Arnold's close shave in motorbike near-miss live on GMB

The breakfast television presenters told viewers at home that the entertainment reporter was rushing off to the BAFTA TV Awards nomination announcement before cutting to him strapping on a helmet.

Richard could be seen struggling to put the white safety hat on his head before hopping onto a motorbike to make it to the ceremony.

Just moments later, the vehicle zoomed off but almost collided with a black car making its way to the studio as Richard waved at the camera from the back of the bike.

As the broadcast cut back to the studio, Kate and Eamonn could be seen with their mouths wide open as they took in the events that had just unfolded before them.

Eamonn noted: “Well, that was a close shave wasn’t it?” before letting out a sigh of relief.

Co-host Charlotte Hawkins commented: “That nearly started off on a bad foot didn’t it?”

As the crew in the studio laughed, Eamonn continued: “If that passenger had opened that door, we would have been looking for another showbiz correspondent.”

Kate added: “He’s not really born to be wild is he, our Richard Arnold?”
