Dragons’ Den: Who is Jenny Campbell and what is her net worth?

Jenny Campbell and Tej Lalvani are the 16th and 17th dragons to join the hit BBC2 show, which begins its 15th series tonight.

“As a fan of Dragons’ Den I’m very excited to be taking my seat in the line-up and bringing my own unique style to the Den,” Campbell said.

“I’m looking forward to using my extensive business skills to spot the next generation of entrepreneurs and help them realise their business dreams.”

Lalvani was drafted in to replace Crystal Palace FC chairman Steve Paris, who was announced to be joining the show but dropped out shortly before filming commences.

Peter Jones, who has been on the show since it started in 2005, returns alongside Deborah Meaden and Touker Suleyman.

Who is Jenny Campbell?

The 55-year-old is one of the country’s top female bankers in an industry typically dominated by males.

Her story is a typical rags-to-riches tale: she left school at 16 to work for Natwest, and spent her evenings studying for her banking qualifications.

After five years of night school Campbell passed her exams and moved to London to work at Natwest’s head office.

She rose through the ranks until the bank was purchased by Royal Bank of Scotland – a transition she was instrumental in.

In 2006 Campbell joined Hanco ATM systems as operations director.

The cashpoint deplorer was part of the RBS group but still managed its own profit and loss, which allowed Campbell to “live by corporate standards but breathe by entrepreneur standards”.

Following the global financial crash which saw RBS almost collapse, Campbell was tasked with selling Hanco.

Sensing an opportunity, she decided to purchase the business as part of a group.

The buyout made her a “paper millionaire”, but rather than slowing down, Campbell decided to expand the business into Europe.

What is Jenny Campbell’s net worth?

By 2013 Campbell was able to take majority control of Hanco, which she relaunched as YourCash Europe. In 2013 she sold the company for £50 million.

When asked to reveal her net worth, Campbell laughed and said: “What I will say is, it’s common knowledge that I sold the business for £50 million.

“I was one of a number of shareholders in that, as well as we had to pay the mortgage off, so anything from nought to 50.

“But my sons will tell you that I’m priceless.”

Dragons’ Den series 15 begins tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
