Drag Race Recap: Was the Right Queen Snatched From the Competition?

Snatch Game arrived (at last!) on Friday’s Drag Race, and while most of the queens were busy slipping into character, others decided to finally show their true faces.

The drama began immediately, with Farrah Moan questioning whether Nina Bo’nina Brown really wants to be on the show. This accusation, as you’d expect, was not well-received. There was much finger pointing. (Watch it here!)

Fortunately, the mood lightened significantly — if only for a few fleeting commercials breaks — when it came time to play Snatch Game. Alexis Michelle’s Liza Minelli obviously stole the show (dose gams!), but I also have to give it up to Sasha Velour for his surprisingly hilarious (and totally spot-on) turn as Marlene Dietrich. Her look in the subsequent Night of 1,000 Madonnas redux was also among the fiercest. Miz Velour is quickly, quietly becoming a force to be reckoned with this season.

Of course, there were also a few stinkers in the bunch. While Peppermint nailed NeNe Leakes’ look, she lacked the sass and confidence required to truly embody the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star. And then Cynthia Lee Fontaine — poor, poor Cynthia — entered the competition certain that her Sofia Vergara impression would kill… until it didn’t. (Ru literally asked Cynthia backstage, “So when are you going to start doing Sofia?”)

Given all of the above, it should come as no surprise that this week’s lip sync battle was a Peppermint-vs.-Cynthia affair. I should note, however, that Cynthia’s Madonna look — inspired by Madge’s “Living for Love” music video — was sheer perfection, and had she not failed so colossally during Snatch Game, she would not have been in the bottom two.

From the very first notes of Madonna’s “Music,” Peppermint was in it to win it. Between her high-energy running man and on-point MC Hammer moves, she kept the judges in stitches. Not even a full split could save Cynthia from hearing the two most dreaded words in Drag Race herstory: “Sashay away.”

Were you surprised to Cynthia (aka Princess Cuculina) eliminated this week? Drop a comment with your thoughts below.
