Destiny 2 down – Servers offline for seven hours ahead of update 1.1.1 launch

Destiny 2 servers will be down and offline today as scheduled maintenance is carried out ahead of the update 1.1.1 launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The Destiny 2 server maintenance is scheduled to last for seven hours today, and was revealed by Bungie on Twitter and in a blog post.

The Bungie Help Twitter account on Monday tweeted: “Destiny 2 will be brought offline on Tuesday (12/12) for server maintenance in preparation for Update 1.1.1.1. Expected duration is 7 AM PST to 2 PM PST.”

In the blog post Bungie also gave a timetable for when the Destiny 2 servers will be going offline and when they’ll come back.

Here is the schedule for the Destiny 2 downtime for Tuesday December 12:

7am Pacific Time, 10am Eastern Time, 3pm GMT: Destiny 2 server maintenance is schedule to begin. Players will no longer be able to log in to Destiny 2.

8am Pacific Time, 11am Eastern Time, 4pm GMT: Players still in Destiny 2 activities will be returned to the title screen.

2pm Pacific Time, 5pm Eastern Time, 10pm GMT: Destiny 2 server maintenance is scheduled to end. Destiny 2 Update 1.1.1.1 will be available.

The scheduled maintenance comes on the Destiny 2 weekly reset day, and once it’s finished update 1.1.1 will be available to download.

The Destiny 2 patch introduces Masterworks versions of Legendary weapons which track and display kills with that weapon.

The update also introduces the option to directly purchase Faction armour and weapons for Legendary Shards and Faction Tokens from “most” Faction vendors.

The big headline change though is how Destiny 2 update 1.1.1 will affect endgame content in the aftermath of the Curse of Osiris DLC launch.

Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris was released last Tuesday, but with it came an unexpected surprise for fans.

Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris raised the requirements for endgame activities, with the level needed for Prestige Nightfall up from 300 to 330.

However, if you don’t have Curse of Osiris you’re capped at 305 Power, so unless you had the DLC you couldn’t enter those activities.

The Heroic strike playlist which launched alongside Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris was also locked to vanilla players of the hit Bungie shooter.

However, Bungie have now decided to reverse these changes with update 1.1.1.

So Destiny 2 players who just have the normal version will get access to the endgame content once again.

Destiny 2 update 1.1.1 patch notes

• The Prestige Leviathan Raid will be brought back down to Power 300, and its rewards will drop down to match the new Power Level. All players will regain access to the Prestige Raid.

– This will allow access to “The Prestige” Achievement/Trophy for all players.

– This will also allow all players ability to complete the final step for the Legend of Acrius Exotic Shotgun.

• Trials of The Nine will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks, it will be available to all players.

– This will allow access to “Lest Ye Be Judged” Achievement/Trophy for all players.

– Trials of The Nine rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.

– New Seasonal Rewards that launched with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.

• The Prestige Nightfall will remain a pinnacle activity, at the new 330 Power cap.

– This means Prestige Nightfall will require ownership of Curse of Osiris.

– Because of this, we will update “The Prestige” Achievement/Trophy to only reference The Prestige Raid.

– Moving forward, we are investigating adding a 3rd difficulty to all Prestige activities, so that we can provide both a challenge that stays relevant with each new Expansion, and a Prestige version that is available to all players.

• Normal Nightfall will only require Curse of Osiris when it features a Curse of Osiris map. For all other weeks it will be available to all players.

• Time limited events – Iron Banner, Faction Rally, and The Dawning, will be made available to all players.

– We will be postponing tomorrow’s Faction Rally, to ensure all of our players can access the activity and the appropriate rewards.

– Iron Banner and Faction Rally rewards that launched with Destiny 2 will still be accessible to all players.

– New Seasonal Rewards that launch with Curse of Osiris, such as the new Seasonal Armor Ornaments, will require ownership of Curse of Osiris to acquire.
