What has happened so far in season 2 of Designated Survivor?
Netflix’s season two of Designated Survivor reached a dramatic mid-season finale with a devastating death that will set tee tone for part two of the season.
The ABC production is about a low level US cabinet member who is suddenly appointed as President after a horrific terrorist attack kills everyone else above him in government.
Kiefer Sutherland stars in the main role as new President Tom Kirkman.
Season two began with President still coping with suddenly becoming the most powerful politician in the world whilst still trying to figure who is responsible for the attack on the Capitol Building which killed most of the government.
President Kirkman was pushed to his limit in the first half of season one with several national security threats and a murder investigation involving his wife, the First Lady (played by Natascha McElhone).
Fans were shocked when First Lady Alex was killed in a car accident in episode 10 and as of yet it is unclear whether it was an accident or not.
Show bosses have confirmed that the show will pick up with Tom Kirkman dealing with his tragic loss, and learning how to be both the President and a single parent in light of extreme political pressure and personal grief.
Who will star in Designated Survivor season 2?
Kiefer Sutherland will reprise his role as President Thomas Kirkman but fans are devastated that Natascha McElhone won’t be back as the First Lady.
However, other cast members starring in season two include Paulo Costanzo as White House Political Director Lyor Boone, Italia Ricci as White House Chief of Staff Emily Rhodes and Divergent actress Maggie Q as Hannah Wells.
Fan favourite Kal Penn will be starring as White House Press Secretary Seth Wright. The Harold and Kumar actor is in politics in real life, having served as the Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement under the Obama administration.
A major new addition to the cast for season two is none other than Michael J Fox. The Back to the Future star is set to play Ethan West, a well-connected Washington DC attorney appointed to investigate information leaks in the White House.
Fans of The Good Wife will be pleased by this development as Fox starred as a lawyer, earning him three Emmy nominations.
When will Designated Survivor be back on Netflix?
Designated Survivor will return to Netflix for the second half of season two on Wednesday, February 28.
It airs 24 hours earlier in the US on ABC.
