Presenters Eamonn Holmes, 57, and Ruth Langsford, 57, reflected on her last months and her time on the ITV programme with a short film before they were joined by her son, Mark.
Speaking about life without his mum, he explained: “It’s difficult. Occasionally it is very odd.
“Shortly after she died, I fell asleep in front of the TV. When I woke up she was on it, on some kind of educational programme at 2am in the morning.
“I woke up to her voice and looked up and there was mum looking back at me.”
He became emotional as he said he was overwhelmed by the lovely messages of support he received following his mum’s death.
Mark broke down and could be seen with tears in his eyes as he told the hosts: “The love that was shown when Mum died from the show and viewers was a big thing.”
Ruth assured him: “We will never forget Denise here.”
Mark went on to reveal that he remains close to Denise’s husband Brian and everyday they meet up to take their dogs for a walk.
When asked by Eamonn if they talk about Denise, he commented: “We don’t talk in depth. But, occasionally we’ll say something. She’s always around us.”
They all agreed that the time following her death had passed very quickly, noting: “I can’t believe how quickly that year has gone.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am.
