Dancing On Ice 2018: Matt Chapman ‘AXED’ after just one episode ‘Get rid of him!’

Commentator Matt Chapman is said to have been given the push from bosses after a frosty reception from fans when Dancing On Ice kicked off last Sunday.

Many felt Chapman’s voice-over style was too similar to his “horse racing past”, with producers seemingly listening to the feedback.

“After all the hype very disappointing. Seemed really amateur, bad links, awful voice over. That’s me done I’m afraid,” moaned one audience member, which was followed by: “Oh my Lord new voice over man so hideously over the top! And audience as whoopingly annoying as ever!! #DancingOnIce.”

A third hissed: “Dancing on ice great to see you back but you have to get shot of amateur voice over man.”

Though, Chapman has since rubbished claims he was axed and stressed that it was his decision to walk away from the prime time phenomenon.

“I’ve decided to hang up my skates, leave the rink and return to the turf and I wish the show the best of luck for the rest of the run,” he said.

ITV have since told Express.co.uk: “We can confirm that Matt Chapman has left the show, and wish him all the very best and look forward to him reporting at ITV Racing at Warwick this weekend.”

Chapman joined Dancing On Ice for its 10th series last Sunday, replacing former commentator Tony Gubba who passed away in 2013.

This weekend, a new batch of celebrities will take to the rink after the likes of Jake Quickenden and Candice Brown kicked off the competition in full swing.

Lemar, Donna Air, Alex Beresford, Sheryl Baker, Brooke Vincent and Max Evans will all follow on Sunday.

However, Donna has already faced a tough week after her skates were stolen form her car.

Breaking the news on This Morning, Phillip Schofield said: “It’s all over Twitter at the moment that Donna Air’s skates have been stolen out of her car.

“Now you will think, ‘Oh you must have loads of skates around there,’ but these are specially moulded to her feet,” Phillip, 55, explained.

Holly Willoughby, 36, added that each contestant must “wear them in” before taking part in the gruelling show and wondered if someone had sabotaged the 38-year-old before she even makes her skating debut.

Dancing On Ice continues Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
