The Countryfile host returned to the Salisbury Plains tonight, to visit a project which hopes to reintroduce the Great bustard into British wildlife.
Bustards were hunted with hopes of extinction during the 19th century, which unsurprisingly has still had an impact on their population today.
However, John was delighted to tell viewers that the beloved bird was “back again”.
But this wasn’t the first time John had made his pilgrimage to the Wiltshire landmark, as he filmed at the same spot for Countryfile before, where he had an awkward encounter with his feathered foe, Fergus.
“Eight years ago I had a rather close encounter with a chap who showed me a thing or two about defensive manoeuvres,” John told audiences.
Countryfile then showed a clip of John being attacked: “He’s just taken a peck at me!” John cried.
Returning to the scene of the crime, John’s first question was: “Is Fergus still around?”
