Emily Bishop (played by Eileen Derbyshire) was last seen on the cobbles of Coronation Street in January 2016, leaving Weatherfield to join her nephew Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) in Peru.
The ITV soap stalwart has been back in Britain for some time however, returning to the UK last year to look after niece, Freda Burgess (Ali Briggs) in Scotland.
Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) went to visit Emily in Scotland after she arrived back and has since got engaged to Freda, with the pair announcing the news when they made their own return to the cobbles easier this year.
After Norris left once again after a brief stint back in Weatherfield, Emily will be making her own appearance on the cobbles later this year.
Emily won’t be returning in the traditional format however, as her cameo stint will be via a video link to celebrate a landmark occasion.
In October, Ken Barlow (William Roache) will be celebrating his eightieth birthday, with his loved ones marking the occasion in spectacular fashion.
One such surprise for Ken will be to see Emily sending him a birthday message, as the official Twitter account for the ITV soap showed a picture of the soap stalwart’s face on an iPad.
Although Emily’s appearance will be fleeting, executive producer told press, including Express.co.uk, the door has been left open for a permanent comeback for the beloved character.
“We’re in talks fairly regularly with Eileen,” Iain explained.
“At the moment there’s no plans for her to return, but… the door’s certainly not closed there,” the executive producer said, but could Emily make another return for the soap’s sixtieth anniversary?

Last month, David Platt star Jack P Shepherd, 31, teased what could be in store for fans as the soap gears towards its sixtieth year on the tele in December.
Fans will remember for the show’s fiftieth anniversary back in 2009, a tram plugged into the street, killing off Mollie Dobbs (Vicky Binns).
The fan favourites death happened during a live episode of the soap and Jack has hinted another could be in the pipeline.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Jack said: “A live, we’re doing a live!”
However, fans shouldn’t jump to any conclusions, as the actor added: “No, I just made that up! I assume it will be that! I love ’em.”
The last live episode was broadcast in September 2015 when Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) killed villain Callum Logan (Sean Ward).
Will fans be seeing more live episodes in the future and if so, will there be both deaths and returns the show’s most loved characters?
Elsewhere on the cobbles, Gary Windass’ (Mikey North) latest scheme has been revealed, after killing both Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) and Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) earlier this year.
With the Underworld factory in dire straights following the roof collapse in March, Gary became the investor willing to help with the rebuild, but had one of his associates in the loan shark business pose as his front man.
Will Gary’s next move in his villainous plan for Weatherfield be exposed?
Coronation Street continues Monday at 7.30pm on ITV.
