The pair have remained loyal friends, with Craig (played by Colson Smith) supporting Bethany throughout her court trial against Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper).
It comes after show producer Kate Oates revealed that Bethany and Craig will get together this Christmas and embark on a “tentative romance”.
Lucy, 22, doesn’t believe Bethany will ever fully be able to move on after the harrowing ordeal Nathan put her through.
She exclusively told Express.co.uk: “No, I don’t think so. I think it’s going to change her completely, the way that she looks at life.
“I think hopefully one day she will have got past the feeling she’s got at the moment. But I think it’s gong to be a really long road to recovery.”
Explaining that Craig would be the only relationship she would be comfortable with, Lucy explained: “Hopefully. I don’t think that will happen for a while, and if it does, I think it will definitely be with Craig because they’ve already got such a strong friendship.
“I can’t imagine Bethany going with anybody else than Craig. She knows him and obviously he’s a lovely person anyway.”
Following the abuse and court trial, Lucy told how it would be a “long road to recovery” for her character, and that it would be “unrealistic” to portray anything else.
Lucy continued: “I think it has to be a really long road to recovery. After all the research we’ve done and speaking to all the survivors – it would just be unrealistic for Bethany to just be okay and everything’s fine.
“I think it has to be a slow journey. I don’t know what I’d like in the ‘future future’. At the moment it just needs to pan out that way I think.”
Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 7.30pm.
