Jenny Connor (played by Sally-Ann Matthews) has been planning to leave Coronation Street for sometime, but the reason behind her departure has at large remained a secret.
Now viewers of the long-running ITV soap will find out why Jenny is desperately trying to escape to Spain.
Newly released images reveal the events that lead up to her heartbreaking revelation next week.
Cracks start to show when Johnny Connor (Richard Hawley) tells his son Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) that for some reason Jenny has postponed their leaving party.
Jenny’s decision to reschedule becomes apparent when she invites Johnny to join her at the children’s playground.
It’s here that she opens up to Johnny and reveals she scattered her son Tom’s ashes there.
A grief-stricken Jenny then explains it is the anniversary of his death, much to Johnny’s surprise.
Eventually, it becomes clear to him Jenny is trying to leave the country to escape the tragic memorises.
But with these raw feelings suddenly flooding back, will Jenny go through with it and start afresh?
Or could she change her mind and decide to stay after reflecting on her tragic past?
One thing’s for certain, Aidan will leave with or without her in an emotional exit episode.
Shayne, who plays the businessman, teased his exit storyline, describing it as both “surreal” and “emotional”.
He revealed: “I think people will be shocked by my leaving storyline, definitely.
“I can’t say anything about it but I promise it will be worth tuning in for.”
He also confessed: “[It was] quite emotional. I did cry.”
Elsewhere, Coronation Street producer Kate Oates announced she had quit the show after two-years.
Confirming the shock news, she said: “Being a part of Coronation Street has quite simply been one of the best experiences of my life.
“I am proud of the stories we have told and the impact they have had – and I’ve had a ball working with one of the best and most talented teams in television.
“I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity and all it has given me; but I’m also excited to try something new.”
Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
