Coronation Street spoilers: Is Rita going to DIE? Sally Ann Matthews drops HUGE hint

Sally, who plays Jenny Bradley on the Cobbles, appeared on the ITV show with hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby to discuss her character’s upcoming nuptials to Johnny Connor (played by Richard Hawley).

However, like the rest of the world, the presenting duo couldn’t help but quiz the 46-year-old about the fate of Rita (Barbara Knox) after Corrie viewers have seen her develop what appears to be a form of dementia.

Coy Sally told Holly and Phil they “would just have to watch” this week’s dramatic episodes, adding: “I’m not telling you anything.”

A national outcry in recent weeks has called for the soap to save beloved Rita and the star has even been trending on Twitter.

However, Sally admitted that Barbara, 84, had no idea about the campaign, joking: “She’s not got Twitter whatsoever, she’s got no clue.

“I did tell her she was trending and she went, ‘Darling, it’s only taken me 84 years!’

“Barbara’s 84 years old. She’s so deserving of a big storyline and this is a big storyline.

“She’s working so hard and she’s so on top of it and she’s been very involved in it from the beginning. She does it brilliantly,” Sally tantalisingly teased.

Is Rita about to bite the dust in a dramatic week on the Cobbles?

Coronation Street continues on ITV tonight at 7.30pm.
