Nathan – who was released from jail in tonight’s episode – has been convincing Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon) to have sex with his friends and to even flee the cobbles, where he is apparently set to sell her in upcoming scenes.
However, the actor has now insisted that things are going to backfire for him eventually.
Chris revealed: “The bravery it takes for someone who’s been abused to testify against their abuser is not to be understated. We’re going to be watching Lucy [Fallon] as Bethany take a massive journey. But I’m very pleased that Nathan won’t be around for that.”
He continued to tell RadioTimes.com of Nathan’s fate: “He’s going down. He’s got to go down. He deserves every minute of sentencing he gets.”
Chris’ comments come after actress Lucy spoke out about the horrific sex ring plot storyline on today’s This Morning.
Lucy explained: “Nathan tells her to tell her family that they’ve split up, to get a passport, and then run away.
“She finds it all very exciting but he wants to sell her in another country.
“If she stays with the Platts, she’s going to be treated like a child again, and she only wants to be with him, not the family,” she added.
Lucy then continued to say that viewers can be sure that there is light at the end of the tunnel for the schoolgirl.
She said: “It’s important for viewers to keep watching the story. [Nathan and Neil] will get their comeuppance.”
Last week’s dramatic run of episodes saw poor Bethany gang raped by Nathan’s clients.
Coronation Street continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
