Coronation Street spoiler: HORROR as Bethany Platt sex ring plot takes 'DISTURBING' turn

Sarah (played by Tina O’Brien) called the authorities after Bethany (Lucy Fallon) went missing following a huge row that ended with the 16-year-old cutting Gary (Mikey North) and her own arms with a broken glass.

Bethany was taken to the hospital by Craig Tinker (Colson Smith), who found her sleeping rough under a bridge. But, instead of calling her mum like Craig suggested, she called Nathan (Christopher Harper) to come and get her.

When Sarah eventually called the police to report her daughter missing, Neil was the one that turned up, and fans of the ITV soap were left disgusted to hear not only of his occupation, but also that he has daughters of his own at home.

Not only that, after Neil persuaded Bethany not to press charges against her mother, Nathan insisted that they should go round to “show her gratitude”.

One person screamed on Twitter: “This Bethany storyline on Corrie is so disturbing. #coronationstreet.”

“The story line on #Corrie with Bethany is absolutely vile,” a second yelped, alongside some unhappy face emojis.

A third shared: “The Bethany story line on #coronationstreet is getting worse to watch. I just want her to be safe, I hope it’s soon @itvcorrie.”

“What? The scumbag’s a copper! #coronationstreet #bethany poor girl,” yet another wrote.

The latest episodes aired after it was revealed that Ofcom would not be taking the complaints against the grooming storyline any further.

It said: “We assessed six complaints about this storyline. We concluded the content was neither graphic nor violent and took into account Coronation Street’s history of confronting distressing issues in society.”

Coronation Street continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm on ITV.
