Coronation Street: Ken Barlow gets nasty as he attempts to break-up Daniel and Sinead

Sinead (played by Katie McGlynn) is carrying the baby of Ken’s youngest son, but Ken (William Roache) is adamant to tear them apart.

He is not happy Daniel (Rob Mallard) will be abandoning his plans of studying at Oxford University to support the new arrival.

The actress who plays Sinead, explained the longest running soap character will be “really harsh” towards her and pleads for her to end her relationship with his son.

“Ken is really harsh. He says to Daniel that Sinead is to him what Deirdre was to Ken,” Katie told Daily Star.

She continued: “I think Ken really regrets his own life. He always wanted what Daniel now has the chance to do – to go to university at Oxford, be educated and move away from Weatherfield.

“He is seeing Daniel just about to walk into that life and then a factory girl in Weatherfield gets her claws into him.”

Daniel quickly set his sights on Sinead when he returned to the cobbles and a romance between the two quickly blossomed since she found out she is pregnant.

And after briefly contemplating about terminating the pregnancy, the couple decided to keep the baby.

Katie continued: “She obviously didn’t plan for this to happen – she’s been thrown into the situation and Ken is not being very nice about it.

“The fact he goes out of his way to make the point that she’s ‘just a factory girl’, is mean and she feels very hurt.”

The 33-year-old star also spoke about the pressure of playing a couple similar to Deirdre and Ken.

She added: “There’s a bit of pressure as there are so many parallels between Ken and Deirdre and Daniel and Sinead. I’m just trying to focus on playing Sinead and not thinking about the comparisons.

“It’s nice to be compared though as Ken and Deirdre were such an iconic couple.”

Coronation Street continues tonight on ITV at 8.30pm.
