Coronation Street: Heels campaigner Nicola Thorp lands break-out role as secret daughter

The 27-year-old from Hackney, who received attention worldwide when she made a stand against female dress-codes in the workplace, has been offered the role of Pat Phelan’s (played by Connor McIntyre) secret daughter, Nicola Rubenstein.

A source told the Mirror: “Nicola is Seb Franklin’s case worker. Phelan knew her mum but wasn’t aware they had a child together.

“However, he recognises Nicola’s surname, does the maths and realises the truth. The crux of the story is how she will react, because Nicola was in the dark too.”

The introduction of a daughter will cause major problems for sleazy con-artist Pat, who will be forced to consider if he can continue to live his life the same way. But it’s uncertain if this will be enough.

“Her arrival will make Phelan take a good hard look at himself but will it be enough to make him change his evil ways?

“We’re not certain anything can put Phelan on the straight and narrow,” the insider added.

When she arrived at top City accountancy firm PricewatehouseCooper in May last year, Nicola was immediately sent home without pay when she refused to wear shoes with a “2in to 4in heel”, and complained that her male colleagues were not asked to do the same.

After taking the campaign all the way to the top, a subsequent report from MPs stated that employment laws protecting women left a lot to be desired and firms should face “substantial fines” at employment tribunals.
