Christine Lampard in hysterics as Brenda Blethyn makes SHOCK Vera revelation on Lorraine

Discussing the latest series of ITV’s hit crime drama, Brenda, who plays DCI Vera Stanhope, revealed that her stunt double is not actually a lookalike for her.

When asked by Christine, who was hosting Lorraine, if she does her own stunts, the 71-year-old revealed that she likes to try, adding that she does most of the driving.

Christine was then left in hysterics after Brenda made the shocking revelation that her stunt double looks absolutely nothing like her, saying: “My stunt double has a ginger beard!”

Brenda also discussed Vera’s iconic look on the show, saying that she believes it has war-time inspirations.

“I think Ann [Cleeves, Vera author] was inspired by all those single women after the war who were very capable women, who get on with the job in hand, and don’t look in the mirror,” she explained.

Brenda also opened up about the joy she felt when she learned that Vera would return to ITV for an eighth series, saying: “Each episode is feature length so we’ve really made 28 feature length films.

“We start series eight in June. Each time it’s recommissioned we get a thrill,” she continued.

Christine was also keen to ask what brought Brenda to such an iconic crime role, to which the actress replied: “I love the fact that each episode is self-contained and deals mainly with the crime and doesn’t venture too much into personalities.

“The more you wonder the more it keeps you intrigued,” Brenda teased.

Vera is due to start filming again in June with a series to follow at a later date.
