The former Girls Aloud star recently had her first child with boyfriend Liam Payne, and is now rumoured to be eyeing up a return to the spotlight.
The 33-year-old is a record-breaking performer; and is the joint record-holder for the most solo Number Ones ever by a British female artist – a title she shares with Jess Glynne.
She was rumoured last year to be in the studio, but is thought now to have scrapped everything she was working on in a bid to start afresh.
“Cheryl met with her label to discuss ideas for songs and to plan a new sound,” a source told The Mirror.
“It went really well and she is going to be meeting with producers next month before she heads into the studio for some early sessions.”
They added: “She hopes to have some music out at the end of the year but realistically it will be early next year.”
The good news for fans of her biggest hits will be that “a lot of choreography” is a top priority.
It’s been almost eight years since she first went solo, with the enormously successful Fight For This Love.
She went on to hit Number 1 four more times – with Promise This, Call My Name, Crazy Stupid Love and I Don’t Care – and also achieved two number one albums.
However her fourth record, 2014’s Only Human, posted significantly smaller sales than its predecessors amid poor reviews, and its title track only made No70 in the singles chart.
Liam, meanwhile, is also gearing up to release new music: Strip That Down, his first solo effort, is out on Friday.
