It wasn’t the cobbles of Coronation Street David graced, nor was it Emmerdale’s Woolpack.
The Britain’s Got Talent host actually appeared in EastEnders almost fifteen years ago.
The 46-year-old appeared in the two-parter 2003 Christmas special as Ray, a hapless friend of Alfie Moon’s (Shane Ritchie).
His character pretended to be a registrar to marry his pal to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), but she went mad when she found out the truth, although they did eventually wed.
The two episode arc was David’s first and last appearance on the BBC soap, although he of course went on to make many more appearances on the box.
That same year saw David release Little Britain alongside comedy partner Matt Lucas which catapulted them both to fame.
The actor has been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent since 2012, this year marking his seventh time on the panel.
The entire judging panel has remained the same since David joined, and he will sit beside Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell when the show returns this evening.
Simon, 58, joked about David’s reputation as rebellious force of nature on Lorraine earlier this week.
Simon said: “I’ve learned one thing with David – you can’t stop him.
“It’s like a red rag to a bull.”
Alesha recently spoke about the upcoming show, teasing on ITV’s Lorraine: “You’re in for a treat this year.
“We have been spoilt for talent, we are over the moon with the turnout. Britain has not run out of talent.”
She also addressed reports of a behind-the-scenes spat between herself and fellow judge.
Dixon added: “It’s all very relaxed backstage! “We put on our slippers and robes, eat our lunch and have a cup of tea!”
ITV confirmed earlier this week that Declan Donnelly will be hosting the show on his own in Ant McPartlin’s absence.
Ant took a step back from his current TV commitments in order to seek rehab treatment last month after the star was charged with drink-driving.
A statement released by the broadcaster said: “Dec will be hosting the live shows which for the first time ever are coming from the Hammersmith Apollo while Ant steps down from his TV commitments for now.
“We send Ant all our love. And we know that Dec will do a brilliant job.”
Britain’s Got Talent 2018 starts tonight at 8pm on ITV.
