IrShad Shaikh from Ilford, Essex, was described as “the worst impressionist” by head judge Simon Cowell after he did a series of inaccurate impressions of the Queen and Prince Charles.
The Britain’s Got Talent hopeful got four buzzers from the panel for his audition and was essentially getting sent home.
However, the 57-year-old managed to win over the judges moments later when they allowed him to carry on with his risible routine and left the foursome and the crowd in stitches.
His second performance appeared to turn things around and he ended up getting three yeses, though Simon, 57, refused to change his mind about the self-employed salesman.
Following his initial disastrous audition, comedian David Walliams praised him despite buzzing him out, saying: “I actually thought it was really funny. I thought it was funny because it was the least accurate impressions I’d ever heard.”
The aspiring impressionist asked him: “So why the four buzzers?” David responded: “I didn’t want to see you suffer up there. I know what it’s like. It gets tough when people are not enjoying it.”
“I was enjoying it anyway,” IrShad told him, leading the Little Britain star to tell him to carry on and inexplicably getting put through for his second attempt.
There were a variety of unusual acts this evening including John Parnell – also known as “Hoop Guy” – from Nuneaton who ended up bringing Britain’s Got Talent to a halt and causing chaos with his audition.
All hell broke loose as judge Simon chased Alesha around the stage with a microphone after they were challenged to show off their hula Hoop skills.
Although the hula hoop instructor failed to impress, choir Perfect Pitch Creation hit the right note with the judges with their medley of songs from The Jungle Book.
They got four yeses as they revealed their hopes to become the first choir to win the ITV entertainment show.
Britain’s Got Talent continues on ITV next Saturday at 8pm.
