Brigitte Macron looks solemn as she attends burial ceremony in daring mini dress

Brigitte Macron, 70, joined her husband French President Emmanuel Macron for the funeral of Simone Veil, a former political and survivor of the Holocaust.

Simone Veil passed away on the 30th June 2017, with a special burial service taking place in Paris today.

Simone was one of France’s most revered politicians, president of the European Parliament, responsible for legalising abortion in France.

Despite dying one year ago, she received a rare honour today of being buried at the Pantheon, a monument to France’s dignitaries.

Saying her goodbyes to Simone, Brigitte Macron looked sombre yet stylish in a fitted black and navy mini dress.

Simone will the fifth woman buried at the monument to France’s dignitaries, a huge honour.

Befitting of the occasion Brigitte stepped out in a black and navy shift dress.

Showing off a lot of leg, the dress came to above the knee, drawing attention to the First Lady’s tanned, toned limbs.

The dress was predominantly black, with a structured navy blue panel around the busy and short sleeves.

Fitted at the waist, the 60s-stye dress also featured pocket detailing and panels running down it to accentuate Brigitte’s tiny frame.

Also accentuating her lithe legs, the 70-year-old wore a pair of navy blue pointed toe stilettos.

Her makeup and hair was also reminiscent of the 60s era, with her signature blonde blow-dry bouncy and framing her face.

She wore a pale pink lipstick which she offset with a dark smokey eye with navy blue accents.

Standing proudly by her side was her husband president Emmanuel Macron, he looked dapper in a formal black suit and tie.

The symbolic ceremony saw the likes of French former presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and Francois Hollande also in attendance.

Simone was a strong advocate for women in French politics, believing in European unification, peace and being a beloved face in the French government.

Speaking to the crowd Emmanuel Macron said: ”France loves Simone Veil. She lived through the worst of the 20th century and yet fought for make it better.”

Wearing a dress possibly more suited to the burial occasion, Brigitte wore a frumpy black dress to meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican earlier this week.

A far cry from her usual skinny jeans and mini skirts, she chose the shapeless look in an effort to show her respects for the religious leader.

In another unusual move, her blonde hair was tied in a low messy bun, with strands escaping over her face.
